Hudson Hospital Selected to Participate in Nationwide Quality Initiative

Hudson Hospital has been selected to participate in the national quality program Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) sponsored by the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Hudson Hospital is one out of 50 hospitals that were selected to participate out of 500 hospital applicants.

TCAB creates opportunities for front-line staff to innovate, test and measure new ideas that make sense while engaging staff to deliver better care and develop leadership skills. In fact, specific goals are made to implement a chosen number of ideas each month. The program, initiated in 2003, is built around promoting rapid improvements by generating and implementing projects in four main categories: safe and reliable care, vitality and teamwork, patient-centered care and value-added care processes.

Specific project goals and objectives include:

• Identify the key processes that allow staff to transform culture and decision-making at the bedside
• Support those key processes with tools and resources that can support wide-spread use
• Create a learning community that continues to learn
• Identify the key skill set of front-line managers in leading and maintaining TCAB
• Measure the impact of autonomy and ownership of nurses
• Identify the markers for cultural change exhibited by transformed teams
• Create a library of resources that can begin to shape transformational work in hospitals across the country
