Hudson Hospital employees recently published – recognized for innovative ideas

Carolyn Milbrath , director of Human Resources, wrote an article entitled Creating an Engaging Workplace: Hudson Hospital’s changes are more than cosmetic which was featured in Press Ganey’s Satisfaction Monitor (January/February 2008). The article featured the successes the hospital team experienced in transforming the culture over the last three years through employee feedback, action planning, and the introduction of the Elements of Care and Shared Values. Survey results reflect significant increases in staff satisfaction and staff engagement.

Paul Sommers , director of Quality and Mission Effectiveness, developed The Moment-of-Truth (MOT) Patient Satisfaction system which was implemented at Hudson Hospital in 2005. The MOT system is patient-centered by actively involving each patient in his or her own health care evaluation, planning, and continuous quality improvement and offers real-time patient satisfaction and point-of-care customer service. The system, recently evaluated by the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Academic Practice Assembly (APA) was awarded the 2008 national “Celebrating Innovations” program award. Paul will present at the national MGMA APA conference in March.

Philip Hughes , manager of Professional Development, was interviewed and featured in The Staff Educator, a newsletter produced by the national HCPro organization providing resources for health care professionals. The article conveyed the importance of

employee education and provided tips and insights for an effective program.

Jennifer Osterbauer , RN, Nursing Care wrote a paper on the hospital’s participation in a national quality initiative entitled Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB). Based on this paper, she and Mary Brooks, CRN will present at the national American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) conference in April. Hudson Hospital is the only Critical Access hospital in the nation to have been chosen to participate in TCAB.
