"For five decades, we have been the hospital where medical miracles have happened."

"The people working at Hudson Hospital over the past 50 years have become much like family, caring for each other, sharing tears, and celebrating joys."
--Marilyn Strandquist
Certified Nursing Assistant

Dedication

In the inexorable course of years, each man, woman and child created a pattern of life - and by that pattern we remember them. The sturdy, God fearing folk who fulfilled their allotted span-the men in the prime of life cut down in their Nation's service-all sought in their own way to create a better world for their loved ones.

It is entirely fitting, therefore, that this institution for the relief of pain and suffering be dedicated in honor or those who have gone before- and be known hereafter as the Hudson Memorial Hospital.

Hudson Memorial Hospital opened it's doors on January 18, 1953. It is an unending story of the Americanspirit of progress through united community effort for the common welfare. Mr. & Mrs. Stephen C. Phipps began a foundation with an idea to build a community hospital in Hudson.
In 1946, the Phipps Foundation announces that it was contributing $70,000 toward a hospital building fund. The entire community became involved in raising the additional funds needed to build Hudson Memorial Hospital. Donations were given from Mr. & Mrs. Charles Ward in the amount of $35,000 and a $30,000 gift from the Dr. Boyd Williams Estate. The City of Hudson established a memorial for war veterans, along with large gifts from generous families of the Hudson community. Healthcare Changes
Over the Past 50 years
Since the opening, the hospital has served it's community well. For five decades, we have been the place where medical miracles have happened. A facility once described as "the latest work in hospital design" was built when inpatient stays were lengthy, and the need for technology space-like most technology -was still many years away.
"Fifty years of Healthcare - A lifetime for me."
-Marilyn Strandquist, Certified Nursing Assistant

Generations have past since I first began working at Hudson Hospital, from that new baby born in 1953 who is now a grandparent. It's a warm feeling to have patient's return and say. "You're still here-it's good to see a familiar face."
In 1953 Hudson Memorial Hospital emerged as a hospital with new technology and continuing care departments, still not letting go of it's small town atmosphere. We worked hard to give good care and meet the needs of patients and families. The Social Service Department grew and helped to fill more needs for families and loved ones.
The people working at Hudson Hospital over the past 50 years have become much like family, caring for each other, sharing tears, and celebrating joys. The first Thanksgiving at the hospital, in November of 1953, was a sit-down family meal for all the staff!
Delicious I started in 1953 and God willing, I can help close the door on the old facility and open the door on the new Hudson Health Campus. My hope is that the heartbeat of the new campus will get a jump-start with the people fill of excitement, desire and compassion for healing.
Everyone is promoting a new beginning, and I am looking at my healthcare career as it began 50 years ago at Hudson Hospital. Why am I still here?
"There is a time to begin and there will be a right time for things to end I just haven't arrived there yet."
