With a defined mission of Celebrating the Creative Spirit in a Healing Environment, the many-faceted program includes placing temporary exhibits of regional artist's work through out the hospital, acquiring permanent displays (both inside and outside), facilitating commissions of original work, managing an art cart program and presenting educational and hands on workshops, demonstrations and more.

The Vision

  • Support the healing environment of the Hudson Hospital.
  • Reflect and enhance the image of the campus architecture and interiors.
  • Minimize the stress for patients, visitors and staff associated with a hospital environment.
  • Guide and nurture the artistic talents, energies, and knowledge of the patients, staff and community.
  • Support the culture of the regional population.
  • Reflect the mission statements of Hudson Hospital and The Phipps Center for the Arts.

The Paul T. Granlund bronze sculpture was donated through a generous gift from C.R. & Cynthia Hackworthy. The feature is placed where patients and families may reflect and heal.
   


Temporary Exhibits
Exhibitions of work by regional artists selected by the Visual Arts Council and endorsed by the Healing Arts Committee. The exhibitions are on view for specified periods of time. Each gallery piece is labeled with title, artist's name' and price(if for sale). Artwork on sale can be purchased through The Alcove Gift Shop.

The Phipps is for Kids

A permanent display of children's artwork is located near the hospital café. This location displays artwork completed in classes administered by The Phipps.

You will notice two colorful quilts featured on the walls of Hudson Hospital. Hundreds of dedicated hours by campus staff have touched the hems of these fine art pieces on display for all to enjoy. Hudson Hospital staff volunteers and other campus family members created the extraordinary quilts placed in the facility.

   
Acquisitions
Works of art(original and reproductions purchased, donated, or currently in Hudson Hospital's collections permanently exhibited at the new facility. Acquisitions are selected by the Visual Arts Council with their input and endorsement from the Healing Arts Advisory Committee.

Commissions
Original works of art, by regional artists, created for a specific site and for permanent display. Commissioned artwork may be initiated by a donor's request or Hudson Hospital. Regional artists are selected through an open call for proposals. A project committee selects and supports the artist in the creative process.

The water feature is anonymously donated by a generous family of the community. The feature depicts the sense of family that welcomes all who visit the Hudson Health Campus.

Education and Special Programs
Hands on art-making classes with regional artists as well as artist talks and demonstrations with exhibiting artists. Classes are offered to patients, staff and the community. Working with the Hudson Hospital Health Resource Center, art-making programs are incorporated into existing educational offerings whenever appropriate.
